About us
Notre Dame Academy is a boarding and day Secondary School for girls and boys. It is founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, a Roman Catholic Religious Institution. The school formerly began September 22nd, 2008 as an off-shoot of the already existing Notre Dame Nursery / Primary School. This dream was brought to life, thanks to the demand made by some parents who wanted their children to continue with Notre Dame Education Legacy on the secondary level. The fifteen (15) pioneering students had a humble beginning: they shared the building and learning space with the Nursery / Primary section while the ground floor of the secondary school was under construction. On the 13th of September 2010, the students moved into the completed ground floor of the secondary school. The hostel for girls was officially opened on the 10th of September 2011 to boost the school's admission strength and it is witnessing steady increase. Notre Dame Academy, Awkunanaw is a pace-setting school. Over the years, it has become the delight of parents. Almost every parent now wants their child/children in the school. The reason is not far- fetched. The school is a testament to the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame- ‘proclaiming the goodness of God'- through education. The school provides a holistic education for the girl and boy child in an environment that upholds human dignity, morality, honesty, selfless service and the capacity for excellent academic learning that will last for a life time. The school has both human and material resources to meet the educational needs of the students and even much more. Notre Dame Academy is a government approved school and it strives each day to excel in promoting the standard requirements for running a secondary school by the Federal Ministry of Education. Today, Notre Dame Academy Awkunanaw stands tall with pride
